The ladies of Johnson C. Smith brought the title home Saturday night as MVP Wendy Stywalt went off with 30 points and 12 rebounds. The Golden Bulls also received 10 rebounds from Demetria Bell with five of them being offensive. They scored 13 second chance points and 22 points in the paint in a game that was mostly about the matchups in the middle.
Teaunsha Robinson of Bowie State seemed to be dominating the paint in the first half on the offensive end but got cold in the second. Wendy Stywalt kept it going and went off in the second half it seemed to prove to be too much.
Bowie State’s Denisha Kenion had three assists with crisp passing inside and scored 10 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Bianca Lee hit a big three in the second half to keep them in it because of JSCU’s turnovers with 16.
But in the end it was the lady Golden Bull’s lifting the trophy up high and Wendy Stywalt the MVP trophy for the 2009 CIAA 64th Annual Women’s Basketball Tournament.
